1. Update the copyright in your footer
If you have the fun little copyright “C” in your website’s footer, you likely had last year’s date on it. You’ll want to update this to the current year. If you show a range, for example, 2015 until now, then you’ll want to make sure the “now” is 2021.
Confused about if you can use the copyright symbol or not? You can! You have automatic rights to the content you create on your website, so YES you can add this little C and the year without filing any government paperwork and stuff like that. It’s your right.
To get the little “C”, just Google copyright C and find an icon then you can copy/paste it into your website with ease!
Updating this communicates to viewers that you actually update your website. This matters less at the beginning of the year but will matter more as the year goes on. You don’t want people to think that you aren’t updating your website!
2. Update any dates on your website.
Again, we want your website to be current and as up to date as possible. Change out any dates that might have changed because of the new year. For example, you might say “I’ve been in business 3 years”, and now it’s 4 years.
Maybe you say on your website that you’ve served 100 happy customers, but you haven’t updated that in a year so now it’s actually 200. This is a great website refresh that will help you stay current and enhance your credibility!
Even subtle things on your About page, like if you mention your own age or your children’s ages or how long you’ve been married. There are so many “date” opportunities on a website.
As someone who has a really large website, for me, this looks like going on every page and looking for these things that need tweaking!
3. Do a link check and just poke around your whole website!
This website refresh idea acts as a catch-all for anything else that needs to be updated. I like to go page by page through my whole site and read all of the copy, update pictures and forms, and check links.
Try to go through every page and make tweaks as you go. This will help you not to miss anything!
